The Amiskwaciy Project is a two stage "sandbox" project. It is a modest project that begins by attempting to identify a number of instructional approaches that successfully engage aboriginal students (First Nations and Metis) in IT oriented studies. It hopes to use this information to create a set of activities (a "CS club-in-a-box") that could be used in informal setting such as a club or an independent study that would engage both aboriginal and non-aboriginal students.
This project calls for the development of an Introductory level syllabus for the new Computer Science Education (CSE) curriculum. This syllabus would be aimed at teachers new to CSE and would be designed to provide encouragement and support for teachers looking to implement CSE programs in their schools.
The High School - IT Industry Partnership Project is a school/industry engagement project sponsored by the ICT Branch of Advanced Education and Technology (AET) and supported by the Alberta ICT Council and by CIPS.
The intent of the project is to encourage high school students to be more aware of the ever expanding role that IT plays in our current society and to encourage more of those students to either consider a formal career in IT or to identify and actively acquire IT skills that will help them in their chosen career.
